What are middle-income people doing in social housing?

Some social housing is designed exclusively for low-income tenants. But most housing built in the 1970s and 80s was designed to create mixed-income communities.  In these developments between 25% and 50% of tenants receive subsidies. The rest pay rents that cover their unit’s share of the building’s full operating costs.

Many people believe that these mixed-income buildings are among Toronto’s most successful communities.
